A Sentimental Journey, The Doris Day Songbook – Joanne O’Brien
This is a celebration of those songs, and that sound and look, made famous by Doris Day, as expressed by the velvet voice of singer/actress Joanne O’Brien. Through a cavalcade of iconic big band classics, Great American Songbook favorites and pop tunes, Joanne illuminates Doris Day’s career and music.
Starting with “Sentimental Journey” with the Les Brown Band in ’45, followed by appearances with Bing Crosby on his radio program, on to the big screen with such stars as Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, Jack Lemmon, Rock Hudson and James Garner. T.V. then beckoned for another 5 year run leading the popularity charts. Doris Day was Billboard’s top female vocalist 9 times between ’49 – ’58. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in “Pillow Talk” and the song, “Que Sera, Sera” was the Academy Award winner for Best Original Song in ’56.
“Their performance was wonderful and they were so easy to please. We would have them back again” – Janelle E., Newcastle, WY
